Men’s 10000m Final Preview at the 2023 NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Track & Field Championships ⚡️

The first track event of Day 1 at NCAAs kicks off tonight with the highly anticipated Men’s 10000m Final, which features reigning champion Dylan Jacobs, the Stanford duo of Charles Hicks & Ky Robinson, Casey Clinger of BYU, and Oklahoma State’s savvy veterans, Alex Maier & Isai Rodriguez. Dylan Jacobs, while at Notre Dame, upset heavy favorite Abdihamid Nur of NAU in last year’s 10000m final at Hayward Field, thanks to a devastating kick in the last 150 meters of the race which proved to be lethal for the rest of the chasing field. This unlikely victory for Jacobs makes him a strong favorite to win back-to-back outdoor 10000m titles, a feat that hasn’t been achieved since Edward Cheserek did so back in 2015 & 2016. 

Charles Hicks, the 2022 NCAA XC Champion comes into the race as a heavyweight as well, having beaten Jacobs and the entire NCAA field at cross country nationals. Hicks, who has the fastest time in the NCAA in the 10000m (27:57) event this year, will also be chasing history as he hopes to become the eighth man to win both NCAA XC & the outdoor 10000m title in the same school year; a list that includes Gerry Lindgren of Washington State, Suleiman Nyambui of UTEP, Ed Eyestone of BYU, Boaz Cheboiywo of Eastern Michigan, Galen Rupp of Oregon & Edward Cheserek of Oregon.
