🏀 From Malton to Canada Basketball 🇨🇦

Brown Ballers is proud to spotlight Kulbir Sidhu, President & Lead Program Director of Malton Sting Basketball Club and a 2026 Canada Basketball Mike MacKay Stewardship Award recipient.

For Kulbir, basketball has always been about more than the scoreboard. It’s about community, mentorship, opportunity, and giving back.

A proud son of immigrants from Punjab, India, Kulbir grew up in Malton, Ontario — the same community he now serves. Since founding Malton Sting in 2019, he has helped create opportunities for hundreds of young athletes, supporting their development both on and off the court.

From helping athletes pursue scholarships and opportunities at colleges and universities to seeing former players return as coaches and trainers, Kulbir’s impact continues to grow beyond the game.

As a South Asian, Punjabi Sikh coach, his journey also represents the importance of seeing greater South Asian representation in basketball — not only as players, but as coaches, mentors, leaders, and builders of the game.

From Malton → the University of Buckingham → back home to Malton, Kulbir’s journey has come full circle.

The Mike MacKay Stewardship Award recognizes Kulbir individually, but the story behind it is much bigger: a coach investing in his community, a player becoming a coach, and one generation helping build the next.
