🤓 Let's explore our mission statement!

Each month we take a moment to define the key elements of our mission, and shed light on what they mean to us and how we work to achieve them. Today we focus on 'Empowerment'!

Before undertaking new projects, whether it be the construction of a deep-water well, a new school block, or sponsoring a student, we always seek community buy-in and commitment. Our decision to move forward is never a one-way street! 

It is absolutely critical that we embody our core value of 'Listen To All Voices' to ensure the entire community has the opportunity to unite and offer guidance on an intervention that is likely to impact them for generations to come. 

The key tool that we use to document this commitment is a Covenant, which helps community members fully understand the roles & responsibilities of both The Sonder Project and themselves. 

Once we review the agreement in its entirety, everyone involved is given the opportunity to sign, or provide their fingerprint when the signee is illiterate, to authorize their support and understanding. 

We recently held Covenant Signings in several communities in Burkina Faso where we are planning to drill new deep-water wells, encompassing the villages of Tansega, Rounde and Boussa. In each location, we had a formidable turn out from the community, meaning at least 50% of the population signed the covenant! 

Even children are encouraged to participate so they can have a say in their future and feel invested in the project. That's empowering! 💪
