Every Child Matters

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We honour Residential School Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, , and acknowledge the resilience of our Indigenous families and communities.

At Holland Bloorview, reconciliation is an ongoing journey of listening, learning and action. Through partnerships, education and cultural safety initiatives, we are working to create a health-care environment where Indigenous children, youth and families feel welcomed, respected and supported.

As Anita Nakou, our Indigenous health equity & experience specialist, reminds us: "Meaningful reconciliation in health care is learning from our mistakes so that history does not repeat itself. When mistakes happen, we must ask how we can repair relationships, rebuild trust and prevent similar situations from occurring again."
