The New Orleans Saints were supposed to be trapped in salary-cap hell with an aging roster and no succession plan after Drew Brees and Sean Payton left. Instead, they may have found their quarterback of the future in one of the NFL’s most unlikely candidates.

Tyler Shough entered the league at 25 years old after seven college seasons, but through his first 11 professional starts, he has given New Orleans legitimate hope. With Kellen Moore building around a young offensive line, Chris Olave, Jordyn Tyson and a resurgent Chase Young, the Saints finally appear to have a sustainable foundation.

Here’s how New Orleans survived years of salary-cap manipulation, moved beyond the failed Derek Carr experiment and rebuilt a roster that could contend in the NFC South for years to come.

Are the Saints legitimate contenders or are we overreacting to two games? Let us know in the comments!
