After 80 years at 35th & Shields, on September 30th 1990, the South Side said goodbye to Comiskey Park. It opened in 1910 as the “Baseball Palace of the World.”

The old park got the ending it deserved.

The White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners 2–1. A young Frank Thomas drove in the tying run, Dan Pasqua tripled home the go ahead run, and Bobby Thigpen recorded his then MLB record 57th save. The final batter, Harold Reynolds, grounded out and 80 years of baseball at Comiskey were officially in the books.

The new park was already rising across the street, but there was only ever going to be one Old Comiskey.#
