A 25-year-old Arizona woman is heading to federal prison for nearly 22 years after investigators traced a trafficking operation back to her following the passing of a 16-year-old girl in Texas.

Federal prosecutors say the teen passed away in 2023 after taking a counterfeit substance. That investigation eventually led authorities to Pamela Esquivias, who they identified as a source supplying illegal substances from Arizona to multiple states, including Texas.

Investigators say Esquivias distributed hundreds of thousands of counterfeit tablets across state lines before pleading guilty to a federal trafficking conspiracy. She was sentenced Sept. 17 to nearly 22 years in prison.

Another defendant tied to the case was sentenced to 10 years.

Do you think nearly 22 years is enough for a case like this?
