When I take a hammer to glass, it isn’t an act of destruction - it’s an act of revealing light.

Preparations for my upcoming exhibition, «The Luminous Face», began with my research into Adolphe Monticelli - who was Van Gogh’s key inspiration for painting light - and a deep dive into the search for lumen: the inner light radiating from within a face rather than glowing from the outside. This ambition to capture an internal glow, rather than just surface illumination, is a challenge for painters that stretches across the entire history of art - from Rembrandt’s deep chiaroscuro to Francis Bacon and Gerhard Richter.

Coming from a background as a carpenter, I don’t use paint or brushes to capture this. I use impact, fracture, and glass. Every strike creates a line; every dense web of cracks becomes a highlight against the darkness. I am not painting with pigment - I am sculpting with light.

Join me in tracing this tradition from 19th-century mastery to contemporary glass portraiture.
