🔎 TODAY’S DAILY SIFT: THE ORBIT

Computing is beginning to leave Earth.

Today Google’s Project Suncatcher takes its first physical step toward testing AI infrastructure in orbit.

Google TPUs will be exposed to the environment that eventually determines whether orbital AI is practical:

Radiation.

Vacuum.

Heat.

Power constraints.

But another satellite on today’s mission may reveal the nearer term opportunity.

TakeMe2Space’s MOI 1A carries Nvidia processors and already has 23 customers.

Their AI models can process satellite data in orbit and send the answer back instead of transmitting the entire raw dataset.

That changes the architecture.

Sensor.

Compute.

Insight.

All in orbit.

Then Nokia and ICEYE announced sovereign LEO networks governments can own and operate themselves.

Different announcements.

Same signal.

Space is becoming a computing layer.

The cloud centralized computation.

The edge moved computation closer to data.

Orbit may move it directly to where planetary data is created.

The important question is no longer simply:

What can we put in space?

It is becoming:

What should happen in space before the information ever returns to Earth?
