The Pentagon is building an entire command structure around autonomous warfare.

Autonomous Warfare Command will be a new four star combatant command dedicated to scaling autonomous and robotic systems across the U.S. military.

That distinction matters.

Technologies become strategically important when institutions reorganize themselves around them.

The Pentagon is now reorganizing around autonomy.

The battlefield is moving from remotely operated machines toward increasingly autonomous systems capable of sensing, coordinating and acting at machine speed.

The next arms race will not simply be about who builds the most advanced weapon.

It will increasingly be about who can deploy intelligent machines at scale, fastest.

What could possibly go wrong?
