If you’re not having to rest between strength sets, you’re not really getting strong.

Here’s why.

If you’re doing “strength training” and you’re able to lift the weights you’re lifting with back to back sets, void of rest, the weight really isn’t heavy enough to get you strong like you’re pursuing.

Sure there are unique circumstances where this may not be the case in the light of training age/experience, but that’s likely not you reading this :)

So, when you lift weights, build to weights that force rest between sets, organically. Not because your program says so or because this post said so but becuase you legitimately need to sit down and recover in order to move that weight again or even more weight for your next effort.

Want to know other metrics we coach our clients to look out for when it comes to truly building strength?

1.Speed change in reps: Weights should move slower from the
first rep to the last.

2.Pretty faces and noises: Heavy weights don’t catch us looking our best.

3.Mechanics bend, they don’t break: At some point during the set, you should feel like you’re fighting for your dear life moving the weights.

4.Failure: Yes, this might actually happen and if it does, pat yourself on the back. You don’t have to train to failure to get the benefits, but getting close might lead to this outcome.

Education and application like this, in a high touch coaching environment is something that sets us apart in our industry.

We don’t just teach how to move well, but we educate on how to get the most out of your movement as well.
