Congratulations Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and George Nagel, awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine for their pioneering work in light-gated ion channels and optogenetics.

Their work established the use of light-sensitive proteins to control specific cells' activity with light, establishing a foundation for optogenetics.

Optogenetics gives researchers the ability to switch selected neural circuits on or off with light with high spatial and temporal precision.
