From the air and on the ground, the Center’s Alaska Director Cooper Freeman is documenting the proposed Johnson Tract Mine project and the wild landscapes it would put at risk.  

Located on private land within Lake Clark National Park, one of Alaska’s most iconic public lands, this area supports clean water, healthy salmon runs, endangered Cook Inlet belugas, brown bears, nesting seabirds and countless other species.  

This mine could cause devastating water pollution and bring industrial noise into pristine habitat that wildlife depends on. Protecting our national parks also means protecting the surrounding ecosystems that keep these extraordinary places wild.
