#SaturdayStorytime - A feather in my cap
So in 2019 I was the fittest on earth… online… in the open…😂
2019 and 2020 were very weird competition years for a lot of reasons, but this story focuses on the open. In 2019 we had 2 opens because they moved the 2020 open to October 2019. There’s a lot of speculation as to why, and I have my thoughts, but that’s not what this is about.
What it meant is that after a stumble at the 2019 games I didn’t have to wait as long to get back on the horse.
It was the first time we had an open in that part of the year so it was new to everyone how to manage that with other competitions and off season. At the time I was in really good shape and was still trying to focus on doing some fun things in the off season. As a result I planned a lot of travel during the open, something I don’t really recommend 😂. It really put the heat on me to be one and done.
3 of the weeks I had to do the workout Friday morning before leaving town for the weekend. Week 2 I was in Miami and had to sneak it in between appearances at a fitness expo (Shoutout mathewfras who was also there for that one so we got to do that together). Then for the final week I was doing an open announcement in Boston with anniethorisdottir .
As it turned out, going into the last week I was in contention to win the open. It’s something I never really cared about, but also had never really been in a position to do 😂. Being at an open announcement is generally a disadvantage for performance so I wasn’t super stoked on that, but this time k was away to CrossFit and would be in town a few days so if I needed to I could always redo.

By the last week of a 5 week open you generally have a decent idea of what’s left on the table, and it was stuff I wasn’t bad at so k was feeling decently confident. Then came the announcement…. Muscle ups, rowing, wall balls. Choose your own adventure!
This was the first time we’d had a chipper workout where you could pick how you wanted to break your reps and let me tell you, an open announcement is not when you want that freedom 😬. This was a nightmare.
My judge came up and said “you have about 4 minutes until we start, what do y
