“Listen To Dr.King Not The Mad King 📸” MLK March Austin, Texas January 19, 2026

As we continue to push for Dr. King’s legacy to remain honored on our calendars, it’s important to acknowledge that some institutions—including schools—have removed MLK Day, often citing changes tied to the DEI policies implemented in 2025. This includes my own university, manchesteruniversity, which is disappointing and contradictory. Especially when they posted “Happy MLK Day” today, January 19, 2026, despite already publishing their 2026–27 academic calendar with the holiday removed. This is the same institution where Dr. King delivered one of his final speeches on February 1, 1968.

As I wrap up my time in Texas, my classmates, professors, and I attended the MLK March in downtown Austin. Photographing moments like this—where anything could happen—always carries a certain weight. Today, though, there was no fear.

Many gathered at the Capitol and shared powerful words, reminding us that we still have work to do as a society.

This also marks the end of my study-away project with manchesteruniversity
