For the ambitious people who have always wanted more out of life than their career

It took years of burning out and chasing what I thought I was supposed to care about to realize:

- optimize for $/hour, flexibility, work/life balance > job title, company name, prestige

- be okay being mediocre: do good work, go home

- don’t become indispensable: be reliable enough that people trust you, but not so essential that you can never log off

- let your job be boring: getting really good at something often makes this easy. you don’t always need to reward yourself with a harder job

- have somewhere else for your ambition to go: build a business, make art, get rich, run a marathon, become insanely good at a hobby. you will care less about work and be happier overall to have a purpose outside of work. Don’t let your ambition die at work
