6 years ago today, Dua Lipa released the ‘Levitating’ remix featuring DaBaby.

The teaser arrived on Dua Lipa's Instagram with the caption 'GET READY 4 BLAST OFF,' showing a snippet of her and DaBaby performing on a futuristic spaceship before the remix dropped on October 1, 2020. It was the second official 'Levitating' remix, following the Blessed Madonna version with Madonna and Missy Elliott that August. The original had appeared on 'Future Nostalgia' that March, and this version became the album's fifth single through its bonus edition.

'Levitating' was the first song recorded for that album to make the final tracklist. Lipa wrote it with Clarence Coffee Jr., Sarah Hudson, and Stephen Kozmeniuk, who produced, after working backward from the album title to find her sound. The remix kept the original production intact, adding only a pop-rap intro and verse from DaBaby. Warren Fu directed the video, made in partnership with TikTok, and it arrived the following day. The remix reached US pop radio on October 6.

The remix reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100, matching the peak of 'Don't Start Now,' and went to number one on the Canadian Hot 100. 'Levitating' kept climbing long after its release, topping Billboard's 2021 year-end chart and later becoming the first Diamond-certified hit by a female vocalist of the decade. It turned the album's disco-pop throwback sound into one of the biggest songs of that era.
