I was hesitant to share this because it will inevitably raise questions on what prompted me to go this route in therapy. But it isn’t relevant. It is absolutely horrifying to me that had my therapy session happened in NY or possibly one of those other “loophole states,” the minute I walked out of that office, the law’s protection would instantly disappear.

I’ve fielded hundreds of comments defending the behavior of the men identified in Jane Doe’s lawsuit. Many of them boil down to “well she agreed to drink, take drugs, and participate in a threesome.”

That doesn’t equal consent to having her location advertised to 57 other men.

That doesn’t equal consent to having sex with anyone other than the two involved in the threesome.

And the fact that she chose to drink that night, that she chose to go to a party at a frat house, that she chose to engage in recreational drug use, that she chose to have sex with two men—NONE OF THAT renders her less worthy of the law’s protection.
