Hidden behind ivy-covered walls in Baltimore’s historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, theivyhotel is an intimate 17-room retreat, Maryland’s only hotel with Two MICHELIN Keys, and a member of the prestigious relaischateaux collection.

Yet its grandeur never feels stiff.

The mansion is meant to be lived in. Wander into the library and choose a book. Pour yourself a cocktail at the Mansion Bar. Play billiards or the piano. Settle into the courtyard with coffee. Come downstairs for afternoon tea. Or retreat upstairs, where individually designed accommodations pair fireplaces and sumptuous bathrooms with 400-thread-count Frette sheets and nightly turndown service. 🗝️

The generosity of the experience is remarkable. Daily chef-prepared breakfast, afternoon tea with equiteastudio , cocktails, valet parking, private car service, a stocked in-room refrigerator, snacks and activities are among the amenities included with a standard stay.

And I cannot talk about The Ivy without talking about its culinary soul.

Dinner at magdalenabaltimore was an experience in itself, with refined, from-scratch cooking inspired by the Chesapeake region and ingredients sourced close to home. Breakfast was equally memorable, whether enjoyed downstairs or brought directly to the room. Freshly baked pastries, beautiful ingredients, and house-made butters so good I’m still thinking about them. 🥐🧈

But perhaps the greatest luxury here is the feeling of having nowhere you need to be.

The Ivy is tranquil, romantic and remarkably intimate, elevated by a team whose warmth and attention make this magnificent mansion feel, somehow, like it belongs to you for a little while.

My first Relais & Châteaux stay, and one I won’t soon forget.
