When we learn to analyze a photograph, every image we see becomes a valuable learning activity. 

In this video, I walk you through my exact methodology for reverse-engineering portrait lighting by closely studying shadows, highlights, and catchlights. We will look at a specific men's portrait to guess how it was lit before revealing the actual behind the scenes setup, helping you train your eyes to read the language of light.

You will learn: 
• How to analyze shadow  to determine light quality and direction of light
• Reading catchlights to identify the size, shape, and proximity of modifiers
• Recognize other highlights in the scene (rim, background) to determine number and placement of lights.

💡Lighting
1. Main Light: Nanlite 300B with a 3-foot octabox positioned slightly off-camera left to create a soft, diffused key light.
2. Rim Light: Nanlite 300B with a 1x4ft strip softbox positioned on the right to define the subject's jawline and hair.
3. Background Light: Nanlite 300B with a 7-inch reflector (with grid) to create a concentrated glow over the right-hand shoulder.
