Today, we are crowning renowned poet and author Elizabeth Acevedo as our #QueenoftheWeek 👑

Born and raised in New York City to Dominican parents, Acevedo first gained recognition as a National Poetry Slam Champion in 2014 before making her mark as an author. Her debut novel, The Poet X, follows a young girl in Harlem who discovers slam poetry as a way to understand her identity and find her voice. The novel became a New York Times bestseller and won the 2018 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, making Acevedo the first woman of color to win the award.

Today, Acevedo continues to champion young readers and writers. In 2022, she was named the Young People’s Poet Laureate, an honor recognizing poets who inspire a lifelong love of poetry in young readers.

Through her words, Acevedo celebrates the power of young women to tell their own stories, embrace where they come from, and make their voices heard.

Thank you, Queen, for inspiring the next generation of storytellers and reminding young women that their stories deserve to be heard. 💜 #SIXBroadway #SIXUSTour
