I get asked a lot about my stance on AI, and some people have called me a hypocrite or that they are confused with what I say sometimes on here.

I would be lying if I said I hate AI, because I use it, every single day. Extend an image, remove background, change colour palettes, improve my writing, help me reply to an awkward client email, rotate an illustration, change my tshirt in a photo, the list goes on.

Do I use AI to be a designer for me? NO WAY! All these tools that generate illustrations, logos, branding, one big ICK! I’ll be the first to call someone out when they share AI work and claim it as their own creations too.

I’ve spoke to a few creators and designers recently and I’ve noticed we all feel similar, not everything has to be so black or white. It’s always ‘are you for or against AI?’ Why can’t we be both? Hate the slop, but love the time it saves on boring tasks. Now because I don’t have to spend hours cutting out an image I can use that time illustrating with my hands, it’s a win for me, and you know what, if you disagree that’s totally cool too.

And thanks to creators like kristy.thepinkpony and cj.cawley.design (and many others) for their fun ChatGPT vs designer videos, I felt inspired, and as always I’m late to jump on a video trend lol.
