While adult great whites in Cape Cod famously hunt seals, reports have grown of juvenile sharks "stealing" striped bass from fishing lines. This footage marks the first time this split-second depredation behavior has been successfully caught on camera and because it was shot in slow motion, the footage allows viewers to see the exact mechanics of the strike.

By working with local charter boat captains and using a custom designed camera set-up that ensured the fishing lure stayed in the camera's frame, Skerry was able to see what this looks like underwater. “My goal was to help people understand that this place, Cape Cod and the Gulf of Maine, has a healthy, recovering population of large predatory sharks, particularly great whites," shares Skerry.
