🔊 Bose once built a suspension system so advanced that a Lexus LS400 could glide over bumps with its body staying almost completely level.

The prototype replaced conventional dampers with powerful linear electromagnetic motors at each wheel, allowing the suspension to actively move the wheels up and down in milliseconds.

Bose began developing the idea in 1980 and publicly demonstrated the working Lexus prototype in 2004 after more than two decades of research.

The system could dramatically reduce body roll, pitch and vertical movement, and the famous demo even showed the car jumping over an obstacle.

Despite how impressive it was, the technology never reached production because the hardware was too heavy and expensive for mass-market use at the time.
