Five generations of Toyota Supra, five completely different eras of straight-six sound.

The Supra story began in 1978 as a longer, more powerful six-cylinder version of the Celica before gradually becoming its own dedicated sports car.

By the A70 generation in 1986, the Supra had fully separated from the Celica, while the later A80 became legendary for its 2JZ inline-six and available sequential twin turbos.

After production ended in 2002, the name disappeared for nearly two decades before Toyota revived it with the fifth-generation A90 GR Supra for 2020.

Despite massive changes in technology, design and performance, the straight-six engine has remained one of the defining characteristics of the Supra lineage.
