Toyota just revived one of Top Gear’s most infamous Hilux torture tests, this time dropping a 760 kg caravan onto the all-new electric Hilux from roughly 30 feet in the air.
⠀
The biggest change is under the skin, because this ninth-generation Hilux is the first battery-electric version of Toyota’s legendary pickup, using dual motors and permanent all-wheel drive instead of the old-school diesel setup.
⠀
Despite the massive caravan landing directly across the cab, Toyota says the truck powered up immediately afterward and drove away under its own power.
⠀
The new Hilux also gets a substantially redesigned front end, slimmer headlights, a more modern Land Cruiser-inspired interior, electric power steering in Western Europe, and dual 12.3-inch displays on higher trims.
⠀
Its EV powertrain produces 193 hp combined, while a 59.2 kWh battery gives it roughly 150 miles of projected WLTP range.
⠀
Toyota specifically recreated the caravan drop from Top Gear’s famous early-2000s Hilux destruction tests after Reddit users voted for it over another wrecking-ball challenge.
⠀
More than two decades later, do you think the electric Hilux has earned the same indestructible reputation as the original?

What are your thoughts? 🤔💭
