Christa Pike’s arms were “swollen, burned and blistered” when she arrived at a hospital after Tennessee’s failed execution attempt Wednesday, her attorneys say in a new emergency court filing. 

The motion filed Friday in Davidson County Chancery Court alleges that problems with IV access caused the lethal injection drug to leak into surrounding tissue. Her legal team is asking a judge to require the Tennessee Department of Correction to preserve all evidence related to the attempt.

A judge granted an expedited hearing on that request, but has not set a date and time.
