Remember: pros have a lot of competing obligations. The very best of them will still be phenomenal players with great results regardless of their equipment — within reason, of course.

Think about the career trade-off: what’s more valuable, a $10M sponsorship contract that has you stick with equipment you already know and have performed well with, or risking all of that for a change that may or may not provide a meaningful gain?

Once you’re a multiple-slam contender every year, I think the risk/reward calculus changes dramatically. If a meaningful equipment change takes 6 months to fully adjust to, that’s potentially 6 months of compromising your chances of winning Slams (millions of dollars and ranking position.) And it could take longer.

And one more thing: smaller brands don’t necessarily have the resources to pay tens of millions to multiple top players.

There are so many variables that get overlooked when people watch what professionals do — or don’t do — and try to explain why.

What looks irrational from the outside can make perfect sense when you consider the full picture.

And it's no coincidence that Head players use Head strings, Babolat players use Babolat, etc...exceptions may exist but that's all they are (exceptiona)

Thanks for playing along, NicTheQuickDB
