Russian officials have urged people to "rely on official statements … rather than rumours and speculation" after reports that a woman in Siberia had died of plague sparked alarm. ⁣
⁣
28-year-old Darya Shipilova had been working for the anti-plague institute in Siberia's Irkutsk region when she fell ill. She was hospitalized on September 29 with symptoms of severe pneumonia, raising suspicions of pneumonic plague. She died on October 2. ⁣
⁣
Officials insist that the situation is under control and that post-mortem tests have not detected the disease, however authorities the cause of death is still not confirmed. ⁣
⁣
Health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor has denied claims circulating in a document online that special measures had been put in place.⁣
⁣
US president Donald Trump has expressed concern over the matter, saying his country "would help", although being unclear on any further details. ⁣
