Clashes broke out in Valencia as riot police battled with housing protesters who threw fences and barriers at officers outside the Palace of the Arts.⁣
⁣
The violent confrontations follow a nationwide wave of anger after Spain's Parliament voted down proposed government housing measures, including a ban on evictions for vulnerable tenants and an extended rent freeze. ⁣
⁣
Outrage over the country’s deepening housing crisis was further fueled by the recent high-profile eviction of an 87-year-old resident in Madrid, prompting calls across major cities for a general strike.⁣
