Passengers on a Flydubai flight arrived safely in Israel on Wednesday after passengers and crew intervened to stop a co-pilot from allegedly trying to crash the aircraft, Israeli officials said.⁣

The co-pilot stabbed the pilot before the plane plunged nearly 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds, according to the report.⁣

Passengers and crew overpowered the co-pilot, allowing two other flydubai pilots aboard the flight to land in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.⁣

Passenger Almog Italie said the aircraft was “dropping very, very sharply” before passengers noticed a crowd gathering near the cockpit.⁣

More than 10 hours later, passengers arrived at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport on a replacement aircraft. A paramedic said one passenger was taken to hospital with a chest injury.⁣

The co-pilot, identified by an Israeli official as an Omani national, was arrested after landing. The airline said the reasons behind the incident remained unknown, while Israel said a joint investigation would be conducted.⁣
