Meet Alaska’s 2026 Fat Bear Week champion.⁣
⁣
Bear 89, nicknamed “Backpack,” has won the annual online contest at Katmai National Park after defeating Bear #910 in the final round.⁣
⁣
The medium-large brown bear is known for his blond ears and got his nickname as a cub, when he would ride on his mother’s back while crossing Brooks River.⁣
⁣
He succeeds 2025 champion Bear #32, “Chunk.”⁣
