A new analysis from the EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service estimates that 34% of the world’s population was exposed to 'extremely poor' ozone air quality between January 1 and September 15, 2026.⁣

Record-breaking heatwaves and wildfires in Europe, North America and elsewhere contributed to elevated ozone levels, while emissions from transport, industry and agriculture continue to fuel pollution.⁣

The impact is especially pronounced in Asia, where 53% of the population experienced extremely poor ozone air quality.⁣
