UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has launched a sharp attack on FIFA President Gianni Infantino over his shelved plan to sell a stake in FIFA’s commercial rights to private investors.⁣
⁣
Speaking in Copenhagen, Čeferin invoked Hans Christian Andersen’s The Emperor’s New Clothes, saying: “The emperor is naked.”⁣
⁣
He accused FIFA of using terms such as “development,” “democratization” and “consultation” to describe a proposal he said did the opposite.⁣
⁣
Infantino’s FIFA Forward Enterprise plan would have created a FIFA-controlled commercial subsidiary holding rights to major competitions, including the men’s and women’s World Cups and Club World Cup. Private investors could have acquired up to 20%.⁣
⁣
Infantino said the plan was intended to generate more money for football development and would be subject to consultation with FIFA’s 211 member associations.⁣
⁣
The proposal was abandoned following widespread opposition.⁣
