THE CARDS AFTER DARK · A♠️

I wore black to my own funeral. I knew the woman in the casket. I’d spent years trying to make her life work.

She knew how to keep the peace. How to stay useful. How to say “I’m fine” before anyone finished asking.

Letting her go felt disloyal. She had gotten me through a lot.

That’s where I’m taking the A♠️ in this series.

Into the private reckoning. The ending you recognize long before you say it out loud. The space between knowing you’re done and deciding what comes next.

Death and transformation are part of its symbolism. Here, the funeral is for an identity. 

A role. 

A version of yourself you keep performing because everyone knows their lines around her.

You can grieve that woman. 
Thank her. 
Even miss her.

You don’t have to keep living her life.
