A wood paneled dining room, wallpapered ceilings, and more color than you can imagine. Welcome to a 1783 Long Island farmhouse.

This week @DesignerHomeTours we're visiting Long Island, where designer Amal Kapen gave a 1783 farmhouse back the character that decades of updates had stripped away. Once home to James Townsend and later reworked by the architecture firm Hewitt and Bottomley, the house now pairs original paneling, Delft tiles and curved glass with bold, layered color. Amal borrows a trick from the old master painters, using color and objects to guide your eye through each room, and it's how a space with 20 patterns still feels effortless. It's a history-first design that works for a young family.
