Waukee Northwest has had an amazing week preparing for the Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards at @dsmperforming !

Last Monday/Tuesday our Triple Threat nominees began with song and dance placements. They also received coaching on their Jimmy Award/scholarship audition materials. On Sunday, they showcased their skills during an audition for a panel of adjudicators. The past two days these students have also worked on a medley to be performed at the IHSMTA Showcase. This year, the top 81 students from across the state were selected as Triple Threats, so Northwest is proud to represent ~5% of this track.

Jack and Paige were also invited to perform “A Cautionary Tale” as a part of a spotlight medley during the showcase.

On Wednesday, our behind the scenes students got to spend the day talking with professionals in Des Moines, networking, taking a tour of the Des Moines Civic Center (including their various Tony Awards), and listening in on a Q&A with Broadway professionals.

Northwest was also able to send two student representatives to the finale medley. These students have spent time learning a medley of Broadway songs to close out the showcase on Thursday.

You won’t want to miss all of these performances and recognitions this Thursday at 7pm at the Civic Center! Tickets are sold out, but you can support our students by watching the livestream at iowapbs.org or on the Iowa PBS YouTube and Facebook pages. A special cut will also be aired on TV later in the Summer.
