Anthropic's IPO could value the Claude maker at more than $2 trillion, which would likely make it the largest stock market debut on record. One of Wall Street's most prominent dealmakers says that still may not be enough to move the broader market.
The target is more than double the $965 billion post-money valuation Anthropic reached in its $65 billion Series H round in May 2026. Its IPO prospectus shows revenue grew about twelvefold in 2025 to nearly $4.6 billion. The company reported a net loss of about $42 billion for the year, but roughly $34 billion of that came from a non-cash accounting charge tied to the rising value of financing that could convert into shares. The operating loss was about $8.06 billion, up from $2.98 billion in 2024. Anthropic also disclosed roughly $518 billion in future cloud, compute, and infrastructure commitments and held $20.28 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments as of Dec. 31.
Control stays with the founders. Anthropic's seven co-founders pledged to donate 80% of their personal equity to charitable causes, and they will form a Founder LLC that directs a single Class F share carrying 50.1% of the voting power on key corporate matters, including some board elections. Anthropic plans to remain a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation, which lets leadership weigh its stated mission alongside shareholder interests. Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan are reportedly leading the offering on Nasdaq, and the debut could slip until after the November midterm elections.
Robert Kindler, global chair of the M&A Group at Paul Weiss, said in a Sept. 28 television interview that he doesn't think the Anthropic IPO matters for the overall market. He called it a very large IPO but said big listings, like big M&A deals, don't drive the market. He did agree that AI spending on data centers and chips is supporting stocks, said no one can predict what triggers the next downturn, and noted the market trades around 19 times earnings, which he called "not very expensive."
Why it matters for investors: Anthropic's listing is a test of how public markets price a fast-growing, cash-hungry AI lab with founder-controlled voting. Amazon and Alphabet, two of its key early strategic backers and cloud partners, could see the IPO reprice their stakes, while the $518 billion compute pipeline points straight at the AI infrastructure trade.
