I think sometimes we forget just how important childhood really is.

Our day at the Miami Children’s Museum was simply another reminder of that for me, because this is something I find myself thinking about often.

Childhood is where we discover what makes us happy, what we love, and who we are. And those little moments become the memories that shape us long after childhood is over.

Watching Nolan experience places like this means so much to me. I get to watch a child who sees the world differently simply enjoy being a child.

And I think every child deserves that, including Autistic children. They belong in museums. They belong at events, playgrounds, classrooms, theaters, parties, and everywhere else childhood happens. They deserve spaces where they can be themselves without feeling like they have to hide their differences to be welcomed.

And maybe that’s why watching Nolan enjoy himself heals a piece of me too. I’ve always been someone who found joy in the whimsical and saw the world a little differently, so seeing him freely enjoy the things he loves reminds me of the little girl in me who loved what she loved, even when it made me different.

Maybe we were never supposed to outgrow the things that bring us innocent joy. Maybe we were just supposed to find our way back to them 💙
