“WHERE IS THE ENFORCEMENT?” 🚔

Olivia, you increased our property taxes to fund more #police — so where is the enforcement?

That was one of the hardest questions raised by residents at my Etobicoke North Townhall meeting.

Residents spoke about public drug use, alleged drug dealing, disorder and behaviour they don't want their children exposed to — particularly around schools and neighbourhood spaces.

Some residents blamed Mayor Olivia Chow and described City Hall as too lenient.

My response was simple:

If we have laws but residents repeatedly see serious problems without an effective response, they are going to ask: where is the order?

A councillor cannot arrest someone.
A councillor cannot prosecute someone.
A councillor cannot order a judge to put someone in jail.

But “not my jurisdiction” will never mean “not my problem.”

If Ward 1 residents repeatedly report drug trafficking, dangerous behaviour or serious disorder at the same location, my office will document it, build the case history, escalate it to the appropriate authority and keep following up.

Police. Municipal Licensing & Standards. Toronto Public Health. Shelter and outreach services. School officials. The appropriate City division.

And where Council action is required, bring the motion.

Where resources are inadequate, fight through the budget.

Where Queen's Park or Ottawa controls the law, take the evidence to them.

#Toronto Police has demonstrated that sustained community complaints can lead to investigations and arrests—including recent drug-trafficking investigations initiated following ongoing neighbourhood complaints.

This isn't about abandoning people struggling with addiction. Treatment and recovery matter. So do children, families and neighbourhood safety.

Compassion and order can exist together.

REPORT → DOCUMENT → ESCALATE → FOLLOW UP → MEASURE THE RESULT.

That's what my 24/7 Constituency Responder is supposed to be:

We don't shrug. We stay on the problem.
