📊 Do you think Russia should share more information about the case?

The U.S. is preparing a formal diplomatic request for more information from Russia after a 28-year-old worker at an anti-plague research institute in Siberia died from pneumonia of unknown origin. The hospital where she died was quarantined, and around 200 contacts were initially placed under monitoring.

The key issue is that pneumonic plague has not been confirmed. Russia has told the World Health Organization that no plague cases have been detected in Irkutsk and that people who had contact with the woman tested negative for dangerous infectious pathogens. The WHO currently considers the risk to the broader population very low. 🦠

Still, U.S. officials want Moscow to provide more details. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called for greater transparency, while President Donald Trump has said the U.S. is closely monitoring the situation and has offered assistance. 🇺🇸🌍

The bigger issue is not only whether this was plague, but how quickly governments share information when a potentially dangerous pathogen is involved. For now, there is no confirmed outbreak — but the investigation is still ongoing.
