📊 Who should set the limits on advanced AI?

Behind the scenes of a White House meeting with top tech executives, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and others questioned Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei about his public warnings on AI risks.

Amodei has argued that companies should be transparent about what increasingly capable AI systems can do, including potential cyberattacks and job displacement. He defended that position during the private discussion.

The disagreement reveals a bigger divide inside the AI industry: how aggressively should companies warn the public about powerful models, and who should ultimately control the safety rules?

At the same time, the CEOs were working with the White House on voluntary AI safety principles involving internal controls, external testing and board-level oversight. The agreement is not legally binding.

The debate is no longer just about how fast AI should advance. It is increasingly about who gets to define the rules — governments, AI companies, or both. 🤖
