Look who's on camera! 🐾📸

On this #WorldAnimalDay, meet some of the wild residents of the Almaty Biosphere Reserve in Kazakhstan, caught on trail cameras 🇰🇿

Nestled in the Zailiysky Alatau ridge, the reserve is a mosaic of mountain lakes, river basins and wild fruit forests.

Trail cameras help researchers monitor wildlife and better understand species and their behaviour with minimal disturbance. Among the reserve’s residents are species listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book, including the snow leopard, Tian Shan brown bear, Turkestan lynx and stone marten, as well as 12 protected bird species, such as the golden eagle and bearded vulture.

The reserve also promotes sustainable livelihoods through ecotourism, animal husbandry and agriculture, connecting biodiversity conservation with the needs of local communities.

almaty.bioreserve is one of 797 biosphere reserves in UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme network. Biosphere reserves are places for testing approaches to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, bringing people and nature together. 🌍
