Armenian-American Max Arfsten appeared in the United States’ FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match against Belgium on Monday, coming on as a 92nd-minute substitute in Seattle.

The 24-year-old plays for MLS Columbus Crew, where he helped the club capture the 2023 MLS Cup and has developed into a regular for both the club and country teams.

Arfsten’s Armenian roots trace back to his great-grandfather, Samvel Siroonian, a respected businessman and prominent member of Fresno’s Armenian community. While the United States’ World Cup journey came to an end, Arfsten finished the tournament with four appearances on soccer’s biggest stage.
