Nebraska’s Emmerson Cope and Michigan’s Riley Zache have both spoken openly about their experiences with hearing loss and the ways it has shaped their lives on and off the field.

Cope received hearing aids at age 5 after growing up without realizing how much of the world around her she couldn’t hear.

She is now completing her undergraduate degree at Nebraska before pursuing graduate school in Speech-Language Pathology.

Zache spent years adapting by reading lips, repeating what others said and finding ways to compensate in school and softball before being diagnosed with Bilateral Sensorineural Hearing Loss in college.

Both have chosen to share their journeys publicly, helping bring more visibility to hearing loss within the softball community.

Swipe to read more from Cope and Zache in their own words.
