Photos by joelsartore | Isn’t Dumpling just the cutest?

With short, stubby legs, it isn’t easy for striped skunks to outrun trouble, so they’ve developed a unique defense system to protect themselves from predators. When cornered, a skunk will first try to frighten the predator by turning its back, raising its tail, and arching its back while stomping its feet. If this display proves unsuccessful, the skunk will resort to spraying the animal with a strong-smelling fluid that can sting the eyes of the predator, giving the skunk just enough time to escape.
