After the DOJ ignored its public records request, the NAACP filed a lawsuit demanding answers on who's being hired, how they're trained, and where they're being sent. The group's general counsel put it plainly: no federal law gives the DOJ the right to send monitors to polling sites nationwide. Monitors at earlier primaries were already described as "aggressive" and "irregular."

With midterms weeks away, this fight is about who gets to vote without fear.
