Dean Atta, one of the most celebrated Black queer writers in Britain (and BAFTA-winning, we might add), is reading in L8 on Tuesday night.

Atta is the poet whose 2012 poem responding to the Stephen Lawrence case spread across social media and led to a profile in The Guardian.

He's the author of The Black Flamingo, the verse novel that won a Stonewall Book Award and is still loved by young readers across the UK.

He's been named one of the UK's 100 most influential LGBT people by The Independent and his work has been heard on BBC Radio 4 and commissioned by Tate Britain, Tate Modern and the National Portrait Gallery.

We could go on - across poetry, memoir, fiction and film, Dean has spent his career telling complex, joyful, Black queer stories, with a Greek Cypriot and Jamaican heritage that runs all through his writing.

Now he's coming to Liverpool to open Writing on the Wall's Black History Month programme with Big Man, his tender, funny adult debut about a middle-aged Black gay man in East London whose quiet life is upended by his past.

As always, tickets are truly inclusive and are kept lower than the cost of a pint so everyone can attend.
