Budget 2027 has been announced by the Government, and the overall package is larger than expected.

Minister for Finance Simon Harris and Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers announced a raft of measures in a package totalling €8.65 billion, with €7 billion committed to public spending and €1.65 billion in income tax measures.

Workers got a higher-than-expected tax break than initially expected. The point at which people pay the higher 40 per cent rate of income tax is to be increased by €2,500 to €46,500.

Trinity College Dublin economist Barra Roantree, Programme Director of the MSc in Economic Policy, gave his reaction.
