I’ve been going to Gold Fork Hot Springs in Donnelly for years, and as it’s gotten a busier, I thought I’d share a few insider tips for anyone who wants a calmer experience.

Gold Fork has six outdoor pools formed by natural rock formations in a flow-through system, with temperatures ranging from about 85–110°F. I love that you can move between the pools depending on how hot you want to be, and the whole thing is surrounded by mountains and trees rather than feeling like a traditional swimming pool or resort.

No reservations are required, but there is a two-hour maximum soak time. If you’re looking for a quieter visit, Thursdays are 18+ only. During winter hours, children under 13 need to leave by 4 PM.

Admission is $15 per person and CASH ONLY, so make sure you have cash before making the drive up. Outside food is allowed, but alcohol and smoking are not. Large groups are discouraged.

And I cannot emphasize the road situation enough. The road from the highway to the hot springs is dirt, and conditions can get extremely rough in the winter. The last time I went, I was in a four-wheel-drive truck and genuinely thought I was going to break an axle. 😂 Check road conditions before heading up, and don’t assume having 4WD means you’ll have an easy drive.

Gold Fork is still one of my favorite places for a soak, especially when you can catch it at a quieter time. Save this one for your next trip to Donnelly. #hellomeridian #idaho
